Love was in the air during the spring of 1925
If it weren’t for a “beautiful blonde,” the world-famous Scopes Trial might never have happened. After the school year was over that May 1, John T. Scopes stayed in town to pursue “a beautiful blonde I had somehow previously overlooked.” (That “beautiful blonde” was going to auction a box of fried chicken at an upcoming church social, and John wanted to be there to place a bid.)
Years later, although Scopes could no longer recall her name, Scopes admitted that the “beautiful blonde” deserved “as much credit as anyone for the trial being held in Dayton that summer.”
